Exercise · ZW-DIRECT-PROOF-006 · ★★☆ Intermediate
Let \(a=2x\) and \(b=2y\) be even. What follows about \(ab\)?
Choose one option.
Show answer
- B. It is a multiple of 4, since \(ab=4xy\)
Exercise · ZW-DIRECT-PROOF-006 · ★★☆ Intermediate
Choose one option.
\(ab=(2x)(2y)=4xy\), so it is always a multiple of 4. It need not be a multiple of 8 (e.g. \(2\cdot2=4\)).
A direct proof of an implication \(p\Rightarrow q\) starts from the hypothesis \(p\) and, using definitions and previously proved results, chains steps until it reaches the conclusion \(q\).
