Exercise · ZW-RELATIVE-COMPLEMENT-005 · ★★☆ Intermediate
Let \(A = \{1,\ldots,10\}\) and \(B = \{2,4,6,8,10,12\}\). What is \(A \setminus B\)?
Choose one option.
Show answer
← Back to the question
Explanation
The even numbers in \(A\) all lie in \(B\), and 12 is not in \(A\), so it changes nothing. The odd numbers \(\{1,3,5,7,9\}\) remain.
The relative complement of \(B\) in \(A\) is the set \(A \setminus B\) of elements of \(A\) that do not belong to \(B\).
\[A \setminus B = \{x \in A : x \notin B\}\]
