Exercise · ZW-DIFFERENTIABILITY-AND-CONTINUITY-004 · ★★☆ Intermediate
Let \(f(x)=x^2\) if \(x\le1\) and \(f(x)=ax+b\) if \(x>1\). If \(f\) is differentiable at \(1\), what is \(a+b\)?
Choose one option.
Show answer
- B. \(1\)
Exercise · ZW-DIFFERENTIABILITY-AND-CONTINUITY-004 · ★★☆ Intermediate
Choose one option.
Differentiability forces continuity: \(a+b=f(1)=1\). Also \(a=f'(1)=2\), so \(b=-1\) and \(a+b=1\).
If a function \(f\) is differentiable at a point \(c\), then \(f\) is continuous at \(c\). The converse is false.
